Being productive as an affiliate marketer can and often is very challenging and one part of this equation is knowing what NOT to do. And one thing we need to be conscious of is wasting time by constantly looking and then purchasing distracting offers. Let’s face it, the problem with most Internet marketers is that we are information junkies! We’re on every major list and we’re constantly getting offers every hour of the day.

As a result, we spend way too much time reading through the latest and “greatest” offers of the week. I would venture to say that most marketers spend hours every week on doing this and worse yet buying them. The problem with that is it just ads even more of a distraction as the customer then spends precious time working on something new and abandoning any momentum they’ve already gained on their other projects.

I think that a simple rule and remedy for this epidemic of a problem would be to limit yourself to looking at any new offers once a week. Pick out a day and time… maybe a Saturday, and devote only this time time segment to looking at new offers, and only do so AFTER you’ve gotten everything done for the week. If there was a deadline that you missed, then it’s probably for your betterment anyway. Besides, there will be plenty more opportunities for similar offers in the future, if not the same one.

With the holidays behind us now, I’ve got to get back to blogging on a more regular basis. Being too busy is really no excuse! Having said that though, I have been spending a lot of my time on twitter ( http://twitter.com/Casey_Peacock ), NFL Football games (being a season ticket holder of the Seattle Seahawks… and yes I must be a gluten for punishment) as well as spending some time on a marketing project involving twitter that if I earn money with it I’ll pass it along to you. I should be finished with the implementation of the setup by next week at which time I’ll launch it off and should see some results of my efforts. I’ll post it here.

On the face of it this looks like a pretty good opportunity for making a successful  online business. And maybe it is. But my experience is less than desirable.  When you click on the sales page (GoogleHomeIncome) you can see a lot of credibility with logos from CNBC, USA Today, ABC, Twitter, CNN and Yahoo.  The headline reads “Earn Up To $209-$909 A Day Working From Home On The Internet”.  It says you’ll get “Instant Access” to a google software kit and by using some simple typing skills to fill out simple online forms, you can watch the cash start rolling in. And, in some cases, below the form in the fine print there is a “Terms and Conditions” link as well as fine print that says you’ll be automatically charged a recurring monthly fee of $68.53. Other cases not: See Here. As soon as you fill out your name, email, phone number and zip code, you’re redirected to another very slick sales page that entices you to fill in your credit card information by offering “FREE Access” for a 3 day trial for only $2.97.  Once you do this, then you are offered “VIP access” to their instructional website and to get your affiliate link for a one time charge of $39.99.  It all seamed pretty reasonable at the time so I went for it to check out what they’re doing and possibly earn a profit.

At this point however is when it really gets deceiving if you didn’t read the fine print after filling out the “Instant Access” form. In order to log in to the website (that you just paid good money to see) you must check the “Terms and Agreement” box before you are let in. When you do, make sure to read it thoroughly because if you don’t, this is where you’ll feel deceived. What you actually bought for $39.99 was a one time opportunity to be charged again in 7 days if you do nothing in the amount of $68.53 and every month after until you decide to cancel!

Now maybe this really is a fabulous opportunity to make $209 – $909 a day by placing little Adsense adds that say “Make $63/Hour Part-Time” in news stories like this that lead to a pre-sales page that personalizes how a local mom goes from financial despair to earning $5000 to $7000 per month with Google Home Income! And I think it would be a great opportunity if only the company behind it (theInternetProfitHouse.com) was more up front on the sales page about the $68.53 recurring billing that starts 7 days following acceptance of “Terms and Conditions” to gain access to the product you paid $39.99 for. Instead of having that critical information in such fine print, it should be a lot more prevalent and easy to pick up at a glance.

But because of the deceiving nature of the way they bill your recurring charges without really making sure that people will be boldly informed about them within the sales copy itself, I don’t want to sully my reputation by promoting such a product that uses what I believe to be intentional deception tactics and neither should you. My advice is to steer clear of this company until if and when they make changes reflecting my concerns.

The other thing is as of this time, when you log into the VIP website, there isn’t a link to go back and review the “Terms and Conditions” once you made a decision to invest here.  See a screen shot of what the course looks like: InternetProfitHouseScreenShot.jpg

Are you struggling at Internet marketing? Are you just going through the motions of trying to be an Internet marketer? Are you reading countless eBooks and watching countless videos and buying countless Internet marketing products? It might be that Internet marketing isn’t for you. That’s OK though. Not everyone is cut out to be an Internet marketer. This is what you have to decide on for yourself. But you really do need to decide this question. Once you do then you can either keep proceeding or quit wasting your time and move on to something else that you really love.

Here’s what I think the missing piece is that a whole lot of people aren’t getting: If you want to be a successful Internet marketer, you need to BE a marketer. You need to THINK like a marketer.

Why is it that so many aspiring Internet marketers fail at earning a sustainable living on the Internet? And what is it that it would take to make those people become successful? Because it seems like they’re not getting it from all the CD’s, eBooks, videos and even the seminars.

You won’t hear any of the big guru’s of Internet marketing really talking about this much, maybe because it’s so obvious. But think about it. You’ve been struggling along with all your information products and seminars and what not, figuring out all these great money making strategies all of which are designed to make you money online, but, none of which actually teach you how to be a marketer!

The reason for this is the general public does not want to be a marketer. Yea… they want to make money on the Internet, but deep down they don’t want to BE a marketer. There’s a problem with this. Trying to build an Internet marketing business without BEING a marketer is like trying to build a house without having a foundation.

So you have to ask yourself… what is a marketer? If you look up the term in a dictionary it would say that a marketer is someone who promotes or sells something. In other words, a marketer is a salesman!

But who wants to be a salesman? So maybe that’s why the term Internet marketer was evolved. It sounds a lot more exciting and mysterious. Who wouldn’t want to be an Internet marketer, doing work from anywhere in the world and making the kind of money that keeps your friends and family guessing?

So I think it’s this perception that enshrouds the “Internet Marketer” title with the mystique that it’s been given. Don’t misunderstand; being a successful Internet marketer IS exciting! But being an Internet Marketer isn’t just about being on the Internet. And it’s not all about the exotic lifestyle. What it is, is MARKETING. And marketing is all about selling.

Why do you think sales people are some of the highest paid people on the planet? It’s because NOBODY makes any money at all unless something is sold. I believe that what sets the real movers and shakers in the Internet Marketing business apart from the pack is that they are really salespeople at heart!

Sure they are all different in that they have different areas of expertise; some are software experts, while others are joint venture experts, some are copy writers, yet others are great at delegating tasks as business managers. But the common thread here is that they are all marketers.

Many of these marketers came into the online marketing business with backgrounds in sales and marketing. But that is still no guarantee that they will become successful Internet marketers. Those people will have to combine their marketing aptitude with some specific online techniques.

So you’re probably asking the question by now, how do I THINK like a marketer? The answer to this question cannot possibly be answered in this article. It would take a whole series of articles and most of you don’t want to get bogged down with this one question.

But you can start learning like a THINK like a marketer while building your online business at the same time. Short of going out and getting a sales job and acquiring real life experiences, the best approach I can recommend is that you read some books.

Here is a list of books you might consider: How To Win Friends and Influence People – by Dale Carnegie; Secrets Of Closing The Sale – by Zig Ziglar; How To Master The Art Of Selling – by Tom Hopkins. Of course this is just a few and there are thousands of good sales and marketing books out there.

These books will give you a really good starting point for building a foundation of which you can start thinking like a marketer.
